Coffee Shop and Cafe Insurance

A coffee shop is a high-frequency premises with expensive espresso equipment, a small food program, and — in Washington and Oregon especially — a line out the door. The BOP has to cover the machine, the tenant improvements, and the seating. If you roast, that is a manufacturing add, not a silent back-room hobby.

We place independent cafes and small multi-door groups. If table service and a full kitchen dominate, our restaurant page is the better chassis. If you only roast and wholesale, see food manufacturing or wholesale.

Risks we actually schedule

  • Equipment-breakdown on espresso machines, grinders, and a small roaster.
  • Burn and slip claims at a crowded bar and a wet patio.
  • Tenant-improvement fire or water loss in a build-out you paid for.
  • A second location or a wholesale account that was never on the application.

Frequently asked questions

Is a coffee shop a restaurant for insurance?

Often it is written as limited-cooking restaurant or food retail, depending on the kitchen. Tell us about ovens, alcohol, and seating so we do not guess.

Does a BOP cover a $20,000 espresso machine?

If we schedule a contents and equipment-breakdown limit that can replace it. A token equipment include will not.

We have a small patio and a dog bowl. Does that matter?

Patio and animal premises are disclosable. They are usually writable; they are not free surprises.
