Clothing Store Insurance
Apparel retail is a seasonal inventory account with public premises and a theft story. The business owner’s policy has to follow peak stock, not a January low, and business income has to survive a fire in October. E-commerce from the same stock is a cyber and ship-from-store conversation, not a reason to underinsure the floor.
We place independent clothing stores and small multi-door groups. Jewelry-level inventory inside the shop should be scheduled; it is not “just accessories.”
Risks we actually schedule
- Peak-season inventory undervaluation and a coinsurance problem after a fire.
- Theft, including after-hours break-in and employee dishonesty.
- Customer injury on the floor, in fitting rooms, and on sidewalk sale days.
- Ship-from-store and e-commerce cyber or funds-transfer events.
Frequently asked questions
Should I insure inventory at cost or at selling price?
Usually at the value the form uses to settle — often your cost plus the expenses to restock, not full retail. We set the limit so a peak month is not coinsured.
Does a BOP cover online sales from the store?
Premises and products generally follow the goods. Cyber and the extra ship-from-store theft exposure need to be on the application.
We hold trunk shows in hotels. Are those covered?
Not automatically. Off-premises inventory needs a floater or an extension. Tell us the calendar.
