Church and Religious Organization Insurance
A house of worship is a public-assembly property with volunteers, counseling conversations, and a board that serves without being paid. The file is property and premises first, then religious-organization D&O, pastoral or counseling professional liability, and a careful conversation about youth activities and transportation.
We place churches and other religious organizations as commercial accounts. We do not write personal lines on a parsonage as a homeowners substitute; if the dwelling needs to be scheduled as part of the ministry property, we do it on the commercial form and we say what is excluded.
Risks we actually schedule
- Fire, water, and theft on older sanctuary and education buildings, including ordinance-or-law rebuild cost.
- Guest and volunteer injury during services, meals, and events.
- Counseling professional claims and board-level D&O disputes.
- Youth activities and transportation that were never scheduled.
Frequently asked questions
Is a church written like an office?
No. Assembly occupancy, volunteers, and counseling change the form. A cheap office BOP is how ministries discover gaps after a potluck injury or a counseling complaint.
Do we need D&O if we are a small congregation?
Board members still make employment, membership, and money decisions. Religious D&O is often the policy that lets you recruit a treasurer.
What about a church van?
Owned vans are commercial auto, and 15-passenger exposure is a different underwriting story. Tell us the seating and who drives before we bind a hope.
